Food for thought... the power of girls.

In college I wrote a paper titled, "The Effect of Gender Discrimination on Economic Development." The paper came about after I read the World Bank report titled "Engendering Development: Through Gender Equality in Rights, Resources, and Voice." When The Queen of Spain posted the following video, the paper and research came racing to the front of my mind. My paper made what I think is a strong argument that the elimination of discrimination along with the empowerment of women will encourage and promote development and change in the world. Women (girls) entering the world workplace have an amazing opportunity to improve the overall quality of life throughout the world. The video brings the position of the paper full circle. Stop, watch and think about it.

Awesome. That is absolutely awesome. As a returned Peace Corps Volunteer, I felt a personal connection the video. We struggled with genderization in our work. I often wonder if we were able to help. One girl... I can only wonder if one of them was able to push on after we left.

Anyway, have you read "Three Cups of Tea" about Greg Mortenson's work in Pakistan and Afghanistan building schools for girls?
